The Merry Go Round trail winds high through the forest to a clearcut view of the Columbia River Valley. The trail builders created some impressive bridges and boardwalks, making this easy trail feel like a proper adventure! This trailhead is right beside the Merry Creek Trails, giving you two great hikes for one day!
The Merry Creek Trails are easy, scenic hiking just outside of Castlegar. The trails meander over soft forest floor and explore interesting landmarks, with a big view of the Columbia River Valley at the far end!
The Wardner trail is short, sweet, and steep! It winds up along a pleasant forest path to a scenic bench overlooking Kaslo, Kootenay Lake, and the towering Purcell Mountains.
The trail up Mount Roberts starts easy and gets tough. But it also gets incredibly scenic! With big views of the Columbia River Valley and Seven Summits Range, it’s worth the effort to reach the summit and enjoy the panorama from the bench up there.
Mount Jardine is spectacular hike which follows a historic mining trail to a high alpine ridge. The summit offers wide views of the Valley of the Ghosts where old mining towns have faded back into the forest.
Just outside of Kaslo, Fletcher Creek drops into an impressive waterfall as it flows into Kootenay Lake. It’s a quick, scenic hike down to the falls, and Fletcher Creek also offers a picnic area and backcountry camping.

Jumbo Pass is a beautiful alpine ridge studded with larch and surrounded by massive peaks and glaciers. Most of the hike is done in the forest, but the destination is well worth the journey! Jumbo Pass can also be hiked from the Invermere side and has an overnight hut that can be booked.
Epic. That is the best word to describe the Macbeth Icefield trail. It’s incredibly epic, but also incredibly hard. The trail climbs through a valley of meadows and old growth forest to ascend past waterfalls to the massive wall of the Macbeth Icefield. It’s a long day with significant distance, elevation, and time, but…
